Vital interests Necessary to protect someone’s life or, for example, if a child is deemed to be at risk of significant harm. Legal obligation Necessary to comply with a common law or statutory obligation. Consent Unlikely to be an appropriate basis for sharing information about a child protection concern, as outlined above in this section. Legitimate interests Only if public authorities are processing data outside the scope of their tasks as a public authority; and therefore unlikely to be an appropriate basis.
